Building a Platform for Both Clients and Providers

Summary

This project showcases how I balanced the needs of both therapists and their clients, creating a platform that enhances the user experience while maintaining ease of use.

Skills & Features

Evaluating the Current Platform

The existing platform presented several challenges. The user interface and overall experience were subpar, making it difficult for users to navigate effectively. Additionally, the platform was exclusively designed for ketamine therapy, which limited its scope and functionality. There was no space for therapists to track client progress, which created a gap in their ability to provide consistent, personalized care. This lack of comprehensive features ultimately hindered both the client and provider experience. Our goal was to address these issues and create a more versatile and user-friendly platform that served both clients and therapists more effectively.

What was Needed From This Platform?

To improve the platform, it was essential to provide therapists, clinicians, and other medical personnel with the ability to create notes, make updates, and track the progress of their clients. This functionality would ensure that all relevant information was easily accessible and up to date, fostering better communication between providers and clients.

Additionally, clients needed the ability to access multiple types or rounds of therapy, including completed sessions, so they could revisit and review their treatment history. The platform also required features to allow clients to fill out and submit necessary forms and documentation, streamlining the process for both clients and therapists. These updates were crucial for improving the overall experience and treatment continuity.

Platform for Therapists

We went through several iterations of the therapist dashboard, using both stakeholder and user feedback to guide the design process. The first version of the platform had a steep learning curve and was difficult to code, which led to usability issues. To address these, our team met with therapists directly and conducted interviews to better understand which features were most important for them to see and use on the platform. Based on this valuable input, we made several key updates to improve usability and functionality.

Platform for Clients

Between Version 1 and Version 2, the client platform evolved from focusing solely on Ketamine therapy to a multi-product platform. This shift meant that we needed to adapt the design to accommodate a broader range of therapies, ensuring that the user experience remained intuitive for therapists working with diverse client needs. These changes allowed us to create a more flexible, user-friendly platform that better the clients.

As a note, V2 is optimized for mobile since we learned that 80% of our clients access our dashboard from their phones

What I Learned

Through this process, I learned the importance of truly understanding the needs of the users—therapists and clients individually in this case—and the value of direct feedback in shaping a functional, effective design. Initially, we focused on features based on assumptions, but once we involved the therapists, we realized how crucial it was to prioritize simplicity, clarity, and ease of use. The feedback loop between users and stakeholders helped refine our approach and resulted in a platform that better suited therapists' workflows.

I also learned that flexibility is key when designing for multiple use cases. Shifting the platform from a single therapy type to a multi-product model required us to rethink not just the layout, but how to organize information for different types of treatments. This experience reinforced that constant iteration and user-centered design are essential for building solutions that grow with the users' needs.
